Human Resources in New Westminster
The insightful and creative use of Human Resources is vital to carrying out our ministry. This website provides resources for Human Resources practices in our parishes, including both paid staff and volunteer management.Good Human Resources practices include a screening process as outlined in our diocesan Screening in Faith Policy. This process provides support and accountability for all in the life of the church, for both the individual and the parish as an organization. Screening volunteers and paid staff addresses our responsibility named in the Policy “to offer the best to those we serve” and that we “insure that those we place in positions of power and trust be selected, trained and supported so that their ministries be life-giving.”
To that end, the resources on this website include the diocesan Screening in Faith Policy with its step-by-step procedures outlined in Section 2; Appendices with hands-on tools; and Ministry Guidelines for nursery care givers, youth workers, pastoral care visiting and other ministries. The website also includes 40 sample position descriptions to aid your parish in crafting your own for your specific context. (Most of the position descriptions were provided by parishes). More sample position descriptions and other Human Resource topics will be added over time; this website is under development.
We are grateful to the Diocese of Toronto who gave permission to adapt from their screening process and materials.
I hope you will find this resource helpful. Feel free to call your diocesan staff for support and clarification – we are here to serve you.

The Right Reverend Michael Ingham,
Bishop
